I’ve made a playlist with the songs that hold a memory for me from this summer. After trying it, I really dig this kind of diary. I would recommend trying out a playlist diary. Please think about doing so to document your fall; more details to follow :). I hope everyone had a great summer.
1. S.O.S. ~ Jonas Brothers
Useless nostalgia for my childhood that hasn’t ended.
2. Resolution ~ Matt Corby
I like to think about someone being a resolution, but what if this is an act of possession? I don’t know.
3. Scream ~The Cast of High School Musical 3 & Zac Efron
Zac Efron has to choose between two colleges he could get into, code red.
4. Ribs ~Lorde
My wifey. We need to talk about who she associates with and promotes. The fastest way to get on my good side is to say you can see us together.
5. First Time ~ Vance Joy
Reminds me of the beach.
6. Drag Me Down ~ One Direction
Just when you thought it was safe to go to sleep. Me bouncing baby bean has become a singer, and that zillionaire mother mine makes me cry with pride. I’m a different person after seeing One Direction live. The only time I will ever see Harry Styles in person, and I will treasure the memory forever. The music video is their best in ages.
7. Lovefool ~ The Cardigans
Creepy, but I dig it. I have been meaning to make a circus-feel playlist for a while, and there is a spot for this song. A poet I like wrote a poem about this song, and the poem affected me. I realized how everywhere this song is, am I wrong?
8. Red Eye ~ Vance Joy
This song sends me back to a specific not important moment from this summer.
9. On a Roll ~ Icona Pop
Icona Pop opened for One Direction, and the Swedish duo is really cool. I would marry either, but Caroline stole my heart with her space buns.
10. Blame It On Me ~ George Ezra
I listened to this a lot when I was walking around the college I would like to get in to please.
11. You and Me Song ~ The Wannadies
On a slightly related note, if you have read or are interested in On the Road by Jack Kerouac, or anything from that group of artists, please please please find and read Off the Road by Carolyn Cassady. Also: come to me with modern fiction recs.
12. New Americana ~Halsey
I found this song late into the summer, but I am so into Halsey. I lost my voice, but I wanted to scream out “We are the new Americana.” I am so into this generation taking control of these antiquated ideas, and fighting stagnancy. I really believe a movement has started, both socially and artistically, but there isn’t an odd name for it, yet.
13. Tears Dry On Their Own ~ Amy Winehouse
I really like Amy Winehouse. “Back to Black” has a lot of songs I love. This is one of my favorites, and it just happened when the slam my friends and I go to did a show inspired by “Back to Black,” the poet I have a cute totally fine teensy weensy crush on did a poem inspired by this song. <3
14. Evangelist ~Matt Corby
I’m the leading expert on white soul. You should see my Hozier collection.
15. Go Your Own Way ~ Fleetwood Mac
The lyrics say nice guy, but I can listen to this five times in a row. What a song to crash graduation with ;).
16. Barcelona ~ George Ezra
Since my wife is from New Zealand, I can relate to that sense of being apart from love.
17. Cat D ~ George the Poet
George the Poet sometimes puts the man in mansplaining, but I would really appreciate everyone making him famous in America, so they will release more of his stuff here, please and thank you. “Cat D” is good, but I want “Search Party” legally on my Ipod nOW.
