My goal in writing this piece was to emphasize how important it is for people to pay close attention. It just seems like lately there are a lot of connections that can be made between paying attention and everyday lessons. Most of the time, mistakes happen because of lack of attention to detail or simply a lack of respect towards the concept of paying attention to others without a hidden agenda. I think if people began to think more about paying attention to things, then details wouldn't be missed, lessons would be learned, promises kept, and balance restored.
Nobody really seems to take the time to breathe.
The breaths we take, are sometimes taken for granted.
We forget to pay attention to such small things,
But what happens when we forget to breathe?
Shortness of breath can result in… Until death do us part.
Once again, words taken for granted although they may seem small.
We seem to forget the little things, until they demand to be paid attention to.
Usually these demands come in the form of either, pain or surprise.
Sure sometimes we’re told about the significance of the little things in life.
But do we really take that the time to pay attention to growth.
I’m talking, physical and emotional.
He looks at her and says, “I do.” She stares back and says “Till death do us part.”
Knowing only one thing, that they would grow old together.
They develop their daily routine and grow together,
not paying great attention to the little things, they lose track of time, and the love becomes lost.
That’s the element of surprise, lost love and here comes the pain…
Worse than the growing pains or the pain of broken bones.
Nobody told her the exact feeling of that type of pain..
So there she lies, on the bed. No longer surprised, just in shock.
Finally paying attention to the little things, but now it’s a little too late.
Finally realizing the significance, that no one told her to take for granted to begin with.
Pay attention to the breaths you take.
Embrace the little things in life.
Realize growth is inevitable, in whatever form it may be in.
Prepare for the surprise, and prepare for the pain.
Because even if nobody told you before, or if you somehow forgot.
I’m telling you now.
So pay attention.
